Find Your Style In Area Rugs
Area rugs have many purposes. These can include adding a new element to a space, finishing a room’s “look, ” covering up a defect, or simply warming one’s feet. While usually rectangular and ornately patterned, rugs come in many shapes, sizes, styles, and fabrics. The most important aspect rugs, though, is that they give a personal touch to an area.
So how do you choose the right rug for your living space? Of course, you can just go to the store and pick up a rug that you find appealing. But if you are looking for a more “professional” touch, there are a few things to keep in mind.
An area rug can be either a small element of a room or the central focus of it. It is good to decide which one you want before you choose your rug. If you want the rug to be the central focus, choose one with a large oval, “medallion” center. For less of an eye-catcher, a busier pattern can be used.
An ornate wall or room pattern calls for a lighter-colored rug with a simpler pattern. A rug like this will keep the room simpler, and will make it look more spacious.
A darker and more ornate pattern is good for cleaning. If an area rug has food or drink spilled on it, it will not seem as stained. This type of rug also can make a space cozier.
The color of an area rug can also be very important in a space. A rug that matches an area’s color scheme will seem more integrated. As a general rule of thumb, at least one color in the rug should match the space.
Finally, area rugs can overpower a room or clash with each other. To avoid this, try to use rugs of different sizes if you want more than one, and match the size of the rug with the size of other furnishings.
