What temperatures is the Canada Goose Expedition jacket meant for?
I got the Kensington jacket (women) and sat indoors with it for 45 minutes and didn’t feel warm enough. How do I know if the Expedition I got instead is the right jacket for me? I have bad circulation, and I am tired of wearing 3-4 layers when I wear standard 80% wool coats to work. I want to wear max 1-2 layers with the Expedition. This jacket is meant for arctic weather… how cold is that? And will the jacket keep me warm in this Canadian (Toronto) Winter?
It looks like the Canada Goose people don’t choose to present temperature ratings for their products. The Antarctic, for which the parka was said to be designed, is of course much colder than Toronto. Companies don’t tend to produce temperature ratings for coats, since comfort depends on not only the person’s metabolism but how active they are likely to be. Have you asked the Canada Goose people how different the two coats are in warming power?
I don’t see that many differences between the Kensington and the Expedition. They seem to have the same insulation. Is one coat heavier than the other? As an aside, I wouldn’t call either of them a jacket – they are both long parkas. Long coats will keep you warmer than jackets – and sometimes you can buy mid-calf length parkas as well.
Arctic weather is typically much colder than a Toronto winter, but the damp in Toronto can make things really uncomfortable even though it’s not that cold. I assume that you’re already doing all the other tricks such as keeping your face covered, keeping your down-filled hood up, wearing insulated ski mittens (not gloves), wearing Sorel boots or equivalent, being prepared to add long underwear on the coldest days, and never going out already chilled or with sweaty socks? If your other gear is doing the work of keeping your extremities warm, your core is less likely to get chilled.
