Is it hard for a foreign school graduate to get in the University of California SanFo School of Medicine?

I’m just a new immigrant here at the US since 2009. I graduated Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the Philippines recently. And now, I’m planning to take Doctor of Medicine at the University of California San Francisco. Im really clueless about the steps that I need to take for me to study in this school. I badly want to pursue my doctoral career. I read in the different threads and discussions about SAT etc, Can anyone help me or give me helpful infos? I hope I qualify in this school. In fact, I did great in my BSN years. I graduated with flying colors. Thanks :)

hi there!

I dont know exactly what you mean since Nursing and Medicine are two completely different fields in healthcare. If you want to pursue medicine then you’re going to start from the bottom. Here’s what i can tell you though. I think there are some similarities in the prerequisites in medicine and nursing. I’m not sure though but to name a few these are anatomy and physio, microbio, and other general sciences. if you want to save time and don’t want to retake those courses then you can transfer your credits. if you want to transfer then go to WES (world education services) website which is www.wes.org. just google WES if you dont trust links :) . basically, they will convert the credits that you got from the philippines to its equivalence in the US. they will evaluate your transcript and after that, most educational institutions here in the US will accept them. Its not free and last time i check you have to forward a copy of your transcript by mail. that was 5 years ago btw, so they probably have other options by now. i forgot the price but you can check it out yourself.

Hope this helps and good luck kabayan!
