Church Of England Bishop Terminated Over Facebook Remarks

Bishop visits noble wedding ceremony unpredicted

An Anglican bishop was terminated because of Facebook comments. The Guardian accounts that viewpoints on the pending noble marriage were posted on Facebook by Rt. Rev. Broadbent who is a bishop within the Church of England for the parish of Willesdon, which is a borough of outer London. He made his remarks clear. They said:

“We need a party in Calais for all good republicans who can’t stand the nauseating tosh (nonsense) that surrounds this event.”

He talked about other English royal family members marriage troubles like Prince Charles and Prince Andrews who have had divorces that the media has been all over which is why he suggests the marriage would only last seven years. Then again, every time Sarah Ferguson gets into headlines it becomes so again. There was a lot of public backlash to the comments he made. He retracted them with an apology too.

Leaving forever

An apology simply could not do, and the Bishop of London for the Church of England, the Rt. Rev. Richard Chartres, had to intervene. Broadbent had been asked to “withdraw from the ministry until further notice” after his boss had just a little talk with him. The royal family seems to be staying out of the situation. Neither Kate Middleton or Prince William has made a comment.

A poor approach to phrase it

The BBC reports that some think that the amount of media coverage over the even may have been why Broadbent made his comment. It seems like sometimes celeb events are a huge deal. They don’t have to be. Of course, everybody probably still wants to know that in April 2011, at Westminster Abbey, the noble wedding ceremony will take place.

“Excuse me lady, do you have any spare change? I am hungry.”When I heard him, I didn’t really hear him. His words were part of the clatter, like a car horn or someone yelling for a cab. They were, you could say, just noise—the kind of nuisance New Yorkers learn to tune out. So I walked right by him, as if he wasn’t there. But then, just a few yards past him, I stopped. And then—and I…
