Think You Can’t Get Away With Patterns? You Can With a Gorgeous Silk Scarf or Shawl!
Open up your closet and what do you see? Is it full of plain-colored business suits and equally plain-colored cocktail dresses? If so, then you are certainly not alone because a great many women tend to play it safe when it comes to patterns. One of the main reasons for this has to do with cost versus functionality. While plain-colored outfits can be mixed and matched to create numerous different combinations and looks, patterned clothing of course will not work well with everything else in your closet.
Another reason why some women avoid patterns is because they feel that loud prints simply draw too much attention to them, not something which is desirable if you consider yourself to be a bit of a wallflower. Tall or larger women too, frequently avoid patterned outfits, or at the very least outfits with patterns of certain sizes, because they give an impression of even greater height or width. Large prints on more petite individuals, meanwhile, can appear to swamp them and make them look completely dwarfed.
So, does all of this mean that most of us are confined forever to a closet containing a sea of basic colors with no excitement or interest? Of course not, because even those women who cannot get away with patterns on the main part of their outfit can add glorious splashes of color and design in ways which compliment rather than overpower.
Beautiful handmade silk scarves and shawls are the ultimate accessory for any woman who cannot wear or chooses not to wear big blocks of pattern. Not only do they work brilliantly to brighten up a plain dress, suit or even an otherwise plain casual outfit such as jeans and a sweater, but the style in which you choose to wear your accessory means that you can decide just how much pattern is on display. Wearing a stunning silk scarf on the inside of a V-necked dress or top, for example, leaves only an inch or two of pattern showing, which is enough to add interest without overpowering.
Of course, to make the most of your hand painted silk scarf or hand-dyed shawl, there are certain things that shorter and taller women in particular can do to create the very best look. Tall women who feel self-conscious about their height, for instance, can create the impression of being shorter by wearing a scarf featuring complementary colors as a belt. This will have the effect of breaking up the length of an otherwise plain outfit by creating a horizontal line. Shorter women, on the other hand, should do precisely the opposite and aim to wear scarves and shawls with smaller designs in such a way that they create vertical rather than horizontal lines.
For any woman who wants to introduce a splash of color and design into their wardrobe, it is always advisable to choose silk scarves and shawls which are handmade and so feature unique designs. While it might be relatively easy to get away with turning up in a plain outfit that someone else is also wearing, if you get caught wearing exactly the same pattern it will be all too obvious.
