Lion Yarn Knitting Patterns

lion yarn knitting patterns
help with the decrease for this hat?

I am knitting a simple cap with wool-ease thick and quick yarn and size 10 needles with 56 stitches. there is a pattern on the lion brand website that says to use size 13 needles, and that one is ribbed, wayy too big and frankly kind of ugly. i am sure the size needle and number of stitches is correct, but i’m not sure how to do the decrease. i just want it to be shaped like a simple beanie. any ideas? thanks!

For ribbed beanie caps, I like to do a K2tog, about every third stitch for the first decrease round, then every other stitch, then every stitch, a few rounds apart.

So, for example, if you were working a 2×2 rib, you would k2, p2 every round until the first decrease. Dec round 1 would be k2tog, p2, across the whole piece. the next two or three rounds would be k1, p2, then you would k2tog, p1 across the whole length, do a couple of rounds of k1, p1, then k2tog across the whole length. By then, you should have few enough stitches to just run your waste yarn through all the stitches and pull it tight. If not, do another round or two of k2tog.

Stockinette caps aren’t as stretchy, so you have to do a bit more of a graceful decrease. Spiral ones look nice. Basically, when you start your decreases, do the following pattern, for 56 st, I would start with doing a k2tog, k8, repeat across the whole row, purl a row, k1, k2 tog, k7, purl the next row, k2, k2tog, k6, etc, until you get down to a number you can cinch with the waste yarn. (This is assuming you’re working on straight needles, if you’re using a round, or double points, obviously, you’ll be knitting the purl rows.) This gives you a nice spiral look if you space the stitches right.

But feel free to play with it. Hats are little, and if you don’t like the look, just rip it back to the last row before the decrease and try something else. Have fun!
