What am I doing wrong with this gauge?
I am trying to start a (free) crochet project on Lion Brand Yarn’s website (URL: http://www.lionbrand.com/patterns/90462AD.html . You can view this if you have a free account at the Lion Brand website.) and no matter what I do, I can’t make the gauge.
It says, with Light Worsted Yarn (Cat. 3) and size F-5 hook, a square of 24 sts and 11 1/2 rows should be 4 in.
No matter what I do or change, I can’t seem to get this! When I tried with the size F hook, it turned out way too wide and not long enough; a size E was still too wide.
Can anyone help me, please?
Are you sure you are making the gauge swatch in the right pattern? If you are making a gauge swatch all in sc, or all in hdc, or all in dc, etc, it wil not come out right – the measuremnts they give are for a gauge swatch made in the stitch pattern the cardigan itself uses.
Follow the instructions for the BACK portion of the jacket, just don’t chain so many stitches to start with, since you should only need 23 stitches to make gauge.
