Alternative to Lion Brand cupcake yarn?
I have found a shawl pattern that requires Lion Brand cupcake yarn. We are unable to get that brand in Australia. wondering if anybody has ideas of alternative yarns found in Australia that would be suitable. It equates to approx 10-12ply yarn but unsure about which crotchet hook you would need. The pattern recommends N-13 hook with worsted weight yarn. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is this the pattern you are talking about? According to Lion Brand’s website, cupcake yarn is worsted weight yarn (4 ply), so you should be able to use any worsted weight yarn you like. It does look like you need 10 to 12 ounces of yarn, so if you got a larger skein, you should only need two skeins of the brand of your choice. This is the link to their description of cupcake yarn.

I would recommend you read their description and study the photo then head to the store to find a yarn that you think is comparable. Even though I am from the US, I have never seen this yarn in the stores here.
From what I understand, the US is the country that uses letters in their hook sizes. (Don’t ask me why. We are weird.) According to the chart I have, size N is the same as 9.00 mm. It’s one of the largest hooks available.
Sorry I’m not more helpful, but I hope it helps a little.
