Knitting Patterns Baby Cocoon

knitting patterns baby cocoon
Any crafters know how I can make an upright sling / baby cocoon with a knitting loom?

I am looking for a pattern to make an upright sling and a cocoon for photography props. I don’t know how to really knit, I just use the knitting loom. Anything helps!

Baby sling

I looked at a few pictures and found several styles. I’m not sure exactly what you have in mind. I have never made one, but I think this could work:
It may depend a bit on whether you have a board or circular loom like Knifty Knitter. If you have the round loom, I would knit a tube. When the front is long enough I would begin to knit back and forth, decreasing on each side every other row until the back is long enough. Lay flat and sew the bottom (cast-on edge) or the center if you want legs to hang outside. You could knit some straps to tie around the adult’s waist and sew them on if they are needed. Or you could shape the back by decreasing on one side only so you get a triangle that could go over the shoulder.

You might consider using a double strand of yarn for working the bottom if it needs to be sturdy. You could also work short rows to give some roundness to the back bottom. To do this I would knit about 2/3 of the way across the back, turn and knit back half of those stitches, turn and knit, each time knitting one less stitch on each side, and then continue knitting normally. This technique is used for the heal of a sock and other things that require more fullness.

If you are using a board, knit flat and sew together. Shaping is something you would have to work on.

I would check Yahoo! Groups for Knifty Knitter, loom knitting, rake knitting. There are several groups where you could ask, or perhaps someone may also have a pattern to share.
