Started in the tumultuous year of emergency; 1975, The Light of Andamans had its baptism by fire. Mr Paras Ram, its founder Publisher-Editor had to go through a hell in maintaining the regular publication of a free, fair and fearless newsmagazine in a society where there were very few takers for such writings at the time. He had to face the wrath of emergency powers and was also imprisonment for his fearless writings. The publication was disrupted but resumed with the same vigour once he was out of the prison.

It was a bumpy ride for the paper all through and Mr Paras Ram had to fight his way every inch till age caught up with him and he could not continue it any further. He had to discontinue its publication in 2002-03.

Gezira Publications Private Limited, a media company dedicated to promote a healthy and purposeful journalism entered the scene in 2005. It sought to revive an old publication with an impeccable track record. The choice naturally fell on The Light of Andamans. Mr Paras Ram readily agreed to transfer the title without any pecuniary consideration.

The Light of Andamans appeared in a new avatar on December 19, 2005 and set a standard for others to follow. It has also set a standard in quality design, layout and printing in the Islands. It never looked back since.

It is the most respected newsweekly in the union territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands for its fiercely independent and unbiased reporting. It has earned a place for wide coverage of burning issues of the territory and lending a voice to the struggles of the downtrodden and dispossessed.

A dedicated editorial team of Govinda Raju, Basudev Dass, Zubair Ahmed and Tanaz K Noble constantly strives to keep the newsmagazine a few paces ahead of the others in terms of both the form and the content.
