Knitted scarf color matching- help needed!?
I like to knit scarves with multiple colors. i am bad at matching colors though. what i do is just hold 2 colors together (or more) and knit. i am planning to use fun fur yarn. heres the colors i have: Jai Alai in Damson, Fun Fur in Caribbean, Fun Fur in Hawaii, Fun Fur in Fireworks, and thats it. But i also have Lion Brand Homespun in Hepplewhite and Gothic, and I also have Lion Brand landscapes in Summer Fields. Any insight on how to match these colors up would be much appreciated.
Take the tails of the two yarns you think might go best together and hold them together and twirl them between your fingers to get a barberpole effect. If you don’t like the colors together this way, if they are jarring or too extreme, try a different combination. Other ways to get an idea of whether or not two colors are effective together are these: 1. get a peephole viewer from the hardware store, screw the sections together and look through it from the outside lens to the inside lens–you get the colors in distance perspective without having to have them across the room; 2. find a piece of red cellophane, even red plastic wrap and look at the yarns through it–this gives you the colors in gray scale and both should be reaonably close to the same gray as each other; learn to think of colors as what basic colors (red, blue, yellow) that they are made up of, and for the secondary colors, orange, green, and purple, what color there is more of in their make-up, for instance burgundy is a reddish purple, teal is a blue green, egg yolk is a yellow orange, and match your color extremes to each other. A color wheel is fairly inexpensive and a good investment if you plan to mix colors frequently and learning to read it is a good thing.
