How to organize large cone thread in my craft room?
I would like to hang 48 cones on my wall, but don’t want to build out of dowels and wood from scratch. Any ideas to re-purpose a different item? The “dowel” needs to be about 4″ high and the spacing needs to be about 2.5″ wide. Thread racks don’t work, I know cause I purchased one for my embroidery thread and the small cones fall off all the time – EEK – thanks so much for the ideas.
I would try pegboard. Buy some long spokes to put on it and bend them so that they tilt up. That will take some force, or perhaps a pair of pliers and a vice. You might not even have to bend them; the little bend they already have at the tip might be enough. The good thing is that you can rearrange your board it or use it for other items if you need to. You can also paint it to match your room. Remember to nail it to 1 x 2 spacers, rather than directly to the wall. You need a little space for the pegs to slide in and catch. Your local home store will usually cut the 1 x 2′s for you if needed, and pegboard comes in convenient sizes that could work for you with no cutting.
