Crochet Squares Instructions

crochet squares instructions
how to crochet a granny square?

i’m getting really stressed out as i really want to make a granny square but all the instructions im finding are way too complicated! i dont know what a slip stitch or double crochet is ir anything like that, so all this ch 6 sl st and 3 dc stuff means nothing to me!
can someone explain REALLY basically how to start and complete one? or point me in the direction of somewhere that explains it every single step of the way, and actually tells you how to do 6 chains ect rather than just saying ‘chain 6′

many thanks to anyone that can help, i have been searching for an hour and cant find anything that just explains it from the word go!

You sound like me! I always want to dive in and get right into the heart of a project but first you have to learn the basics. Others have given you links to some great sites to learn the basics. For a granny square you need to learn a chain stitch, double crochet and slip stitch. Practice a swatch of double crochet about ten stitches long. Most people make mistakes at the beginnings and ends of rows so that by keeping your practice swatch small it will be easy to count your stitches. Once you get good at the double crochet you can begin to combine your stitches and the granny square is a good place to start.

When reading a pattern, pay close attention to the way it is punctuated. Read until you come to a comma and then stop and do those stitches. ( ) are used to group stitches that are related. Stitches that are between * * will be repeated as a group. A period will often mean the end of a row. There are some variations but that is the norm for ‘easy’ level patterns.

Have patience with learning the stitches. It’s worth it! There is a lot more to this craft that may appear at first and you will never run out of new stitches and patterns to learn. At least I never have.

If you still have trouble, most yarn shops have classes, churches too or maybe you could start one. It’s always fun to get together with others, compare projects and commiserate over the pattern that someone else is having trouble with.

Have fun!
