Keeping Money In Your Bank Account When You Decorate
For most of us, moving into a new space means one thing: a chance to redecorate! Decorating a new space can be fun and exciting. It can also be scary, overwhelming and expensive. The good news is that there are lots of ways to create a new feeling for your home without having to spend all of your hard earned money. Decorating can be done simply and effectively without emptying a bank account. How can you decorate your house or apartment without dropping your entire paycheck on a decorator? Here are some ideas:
Thrift stores can be quite helpful. You can find fantastic deals at thrift stores as well as at other types of used and second hand stores. You can find lots of decorations and other items to use in your decorating scheme, you just have to learn to recognize them. Turning thrift store finds into home decorations is easy; you simply need some time and imagination. Even the strange and funny clothes you often find on the racks can be repurposed. Thrift stores in affluent neighborhoods are filled with items that are in great shape. Make your own original art if you simply must have something that is one of a kind. Making your own art is the best way to decorate your house with original art without spending thousands of dollars. Art supplies are not exactly cheap but they will still be less expensive that buying up a bunch of original artwork that is done by others. You can make your own art in your spare time, you don’t have to do it all at once. You could even turn it into a family activity. Get your kids to create their own artwork for their own rooms. Check some books on art out of the library for inspiration and you are ready to go! You’ll feel a great sense of pride when people come over and compliment you on your decorating scheme because you’ll know that you made the art yourself.
Get creative! There are plenty of things in your home that can be repurposed to be decorative. Believe it or not, pots and pans can be great pieces of art-especially since you can still use them to cook! Keeping your pots and pans on pegs means that you won’t have to spend time looking for them.
If it was good enough for Julia Child it’s good enough for you! What about the really pretty patterned blanket that you never get to bring out because you don’t want it to get dirty? It might be best used as a decorative item on your wall. Who says that quilts and blankets only belong on beds and couches? Sometimes it is the functional items in our homes that make the best art.
The best way to decorate your home is to practice some self control. Decorations don’t have to be expensive to be beautiful. Don’t go hog wild with expensive galleries and showings. Put your taste first and the price tag of the art you want last. Take a look around-you probably already own a bunch of great pieces! Be creative! Why not repaint a few old mixing bowls and use them decoratively around the house? Look at what you have around you and what you want to accomplish and then look for ways to cut the cost of that project in half.
