Crochet: Ch to form a ring. What does “ring” mean. In Vanna’s patterns she uses this term. I’m a beginner.
I can knit. I’m teaching myself to crochet. As a beginner I am reading Vanna’s Afghans Book and she continually uses the word “ring” such as: Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first dc here and throughout), 2 dc in ring, ch 2, (3 dc in ring, ch2) 3 times join with sl st in top of beg ch-3.
Nowhere in her book does she explain what “ring” is and I do not find it in any definition charts.
As a beginner, this has stopped me from even beginning to follow one of her patterns.
Maybe her first sentence will help: Wih 1 strand each of A and B (the two yarns used) held tog, ch 4, join with sl st in beg ch to form a ring.
Is she just referring to the first stitch of a row and replacing sl st with the word ring?
Irene
It means you have to join the last stitich you made, to the first one, then you will have a ring to work on. Your crochet should then grow out around the circle.
I hope this helps
