I am a Crochet Begginer, please help?
So, as a begginer I started my first project after watching a few Crochet videos. I started a single stich crochet blanket for my son. I’m using a Size J hook, with a 4ply 100% Acrylic yarn. right now the width of it is about 46 inches. But im on my 6th row and now im starting to think this is gonna take a while. Im not that quick although my fingers seem to become quicker with each row as they get used to it. But how can I make it quicker? i dont know any other pattern. I just know the single stitch.
In addition, I wanted to make an adult size blanket for my husband who is nearing deployment and if i do single crochet for it like my son’s blanket then that would take forever lol. Please give me any tips that would help me out. Any advice is greatly appreciated, thankyou.
Thankyou, im not sure how to do the treble or double, are there any videos that can help me ?
Double stitch might make it go a bit faster.
Basically, to do double stitch, wrap the yarn once around the hook, then poke it through the existing yarn. Then wrap and pull as normal, so that you have 3 loops on the hook. Wrap and pull through 2 loops (like with a single stitch), then do it again.
Also, if you use a larger hook, and possibly a heavier yarn weight, you’ll make larger loops, and the project will go faster. But I wouldn’t advise changing hooks and/or yarn mid-project, just for the other blanket. If you have a deadline on that one, you may set your existing blanket aside and work on the new one.
edit: sure, lots of videos. Here’s one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o1txJLRPfuE (I don’t know if it’s any good, didn’t watch it, but if it’s not helpful just search for another.
To make the change on the existing blanket seem more intentional, you may want to do 6 rows of single stitch on the other end of the blanket, as well. And you may want to do a slip-stitch or single crochet border around both blankets, to give the project a firmer edge (double crochet can be a bit holey). Just go around the project, turning corners, rather than going back and forth, until you think it looks right. On the existing blanket, it might be faster to simply do 6 back-and-forth single crochet rows along the sides instead.
