Confusion about US and metric crochet hook size correlations?
I’m trying to understand how the US sizes E F and G correspond in the metric measurement system of crochet hooks. I’ve found plenty a chart where it says “E=3.50 mm, F=3.75 mm, G=4 mm”, but then i find a chart where it says “E=3.5 mm, F=4 mm, G=4.5mm”, and then there’s another chart where it says that G is actually 4.25 mm.
I really need to know this because I’ve got patterns that use US sizes, but where I live I can only buy them according to their metric designation.
Isn’t there an official conversion chart or something? As in, made by an official crochet association or something, that would settle it?
My main dilemma is that the patterns I have claim to need a G size hook. Now, according to different charts, the US G size corresponds to either 4 mm or 4.5 mm in the metric system. I can only buy hooks by metric standards where I live, and they have both 4 mm hooks and 4.5 mm hooks, so which one do I buy? Which is the correct correlation to a G hook?
I looked again and hopefully the link with the difference is shown is on the left side. None of the others were showing th 2.0 and I was about to check my needles to see what was going on. Is this the right one or do you want me to check my needles?
