help! problem with crochet pattern!?

I just learned to crochet and am trying to figure out some instructions in a pattern. Here is what I am having problems with:

First line of motifs. First flower motif.
Wind yarn around finger to form a ring.
Round 1 (RS) 5ch, leaving last loop of each st on hook, work 2dtr in ring, yo and pull through 3 loops on hook, 7ch, [3dtrtog in ring, 7ch] 5 times, ss in 5th chain. Fasten off. Darn in ends.

I get all of it except this: how do you leave the last loop of each stitch on the hook? Also, when they say 5ch in the very beginning, do they mean to work the 5ch in the loop? Thank you all in advance! Links to instructions or videos would be much appreciated.

How to leave the last loop of each stitch on the hook:

Make the loop and then make a chain of ch 5. Make the first ch through the loop to hold it closed. Then start the motif:
Dtr = double treble:
1. Yarn around hook 3 times (original loop + 3 yo on hook).
2. Hook through loop on finger, pull up a loop (new loop, 3 yo, and original loop on hook).
3. Yarn over hook, pull through new loop and first yo (2nd new loop, 2 yo, and original loop on hook).
4. Yarn over hook, pull through loop from previous st and first remaining yo (3rd new loop, 1 yo, and original loop on hook).
5. Yarn over hook, pull through loop from previous st and remaining yo (2 loops remain on hook).

Repeat from 1. to 5. You will have the loop remaining from the ch 5, the loop remaining from the first dtr, and the loop remaining from the second dtr on your hook. Yo and pull through all three loops. Note: The ch 5 stands in for a dtr stitch. The remaining clusters of dtr stitches will each have 3 actual dtr sts.

Chain 7. Make a cluster of 3 dtr in the loop from your finger, joining them by making a st through the final loops of each dtr. Repeat around for a total of 6 clusters.

When you have finished, you will have 6 clusters of dtr sts joined by chains of 7 ch sts. Sounds like you are making a star.
