Can anyone tell me how to crochet this flower?

I found this ear warmer with giant spiral flower on it. I think it’s really cute and really just want to learn how to make the flower. Does anyone have a copycat pattern or maybe can figure out how it was made?

So I glanced back at the pattern to see how it was done and was disappointed to see I hadn’t noticed it wasn’t a free pattern. So off I went to swatch, and I did figure it out.

But first, regarding the answerer with the pinwheel rose. That is not what this flower is. It is not made in the round. It is made one petal at a time. AND plagiarism really stinks and is a violation of Y!A community guide lines. So here’s what I worked out with my swatch (though it will need a little tweaking). This motif is worked out in wedges, not in the round. I started with 11 ch stitches in my foundation. Then I turned and starting in the second chain from the hook I did the following:
Row 1 (foundation): sc 3, hdc 2, dc 2, tr 2, dtr 2 Do NOT turn for second row.
Row 2: Do the crab stitch along the top of the previous row’s stitches until you get back to the beginning.
Row 3: ch 3. sc in second ch from hook and in next 2 sts. hdc through back post 2, dc through back post 2, tr through back post 2, dtr through back post 2.

Please note, after the foundation petal, you will not be working to the end of the previous row. You’ll stop 3 sts from the end.

Continue work alternating rows 2 and 3 until you have enough petals to close the flower. How you close it is up to you. I didn’t swatch that far. What I did notice on my swatch was that my wedges were rather flatter than the ones in the photograph. I think I would fix this by doing this sequence instead:
sc 2, hdc 2, dc 2, tr 3, dtr 3.
But you’ll have to play around with the number of stitches of each type to get the exact shape you want.

ch = chain
sc = single crochet
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
tr = treble
dtr = double treble
crab stitch is also known as reverse single crochet.

Working around the back post is what makes that ridge really pop out.

These are not beginner techniques. I’d put it at intermediate because both the crab stitch and working around posts require some practice to master and involve some awkward hook motions.
