how do i “block a crochet item?”?
i have been crocheting for over 30 yrs.and never ran into this problem..but i made a round ripple baby afghan with 12 points arouund it..kind of like a star…but it is WAY to wavy and out of shape to be considered attractive..i can lay it down and smooth it out and it looks beautiful..but pick it up and it goes right back to being all out of shape again…what can i do to make it be in the shape it is meant to be in and then make it STAY that way??? any help would be greatly appreciated..thanks in advance for any help….
If you have made it out of any of the artificial wools, you’re SOL. There is no way to fix this, except to take it apart and redo it carefully, making sure that it lies flat as you go.
If, however, you have made this afghan out of natural materials, ie. wool or cotton or silk thread, you may wash this using a light detergent, spin dry, and then lay it out on a flat surface, gently stretching it until it lies flat as wanted. Then you hold it in the position any way you can. If your flat surface is soft enough, you could use pins to hold it. On a hard surface, heavy objects placed on the points might help. Unfortunately, this would have to be redone each time the afghan needs washing.
